Blocks Game

Blocks Game is a psychometric game. With a psychometric game, a psychological construct is measured using game technology. Games are enjoyable to complete and motivating to play. Candidates do not feel as if they are taking a test; instead, they become fully immersed in a fast-paced brain-teasing game. Games are not only more enjoyable for the candidate, but also yield more data in a short time.

“Which competencies can contribute to the tasks will increasingly be the question. Games can be used very effectively for this.” - Sandor Lokenberg, owner of Cariero Recruitment Training Sourcing

Blocks Game is based on the neuropsychological test known as the ‘Tower of London’ (Shallice, 1982) and measures planning. Planning is a cognitive skill that enables us to work out how a particular goal can be achieved. This involves determining how the goal can be reached, which steps need to be taken, in what order, and how this should be carried out.

Blocks Game consists of a tutorial and 30 levels. In each level, the white block must be moved to the finish. The candidate starts each level with a certain number of stars, and every move costs one star. In some levels, the number of stars can be topped up by collecting stars. This makes it possible to make extra moves or to earn more stars. The goal is to solve each level with as many stars as possible.

Application
Blocks Game can be applied to all issues where insight into planning is important, in both selection and advisory situations. Planning ability plays a particular role in less routine work. Every new task or project requires a plan of approach. To achieve the goal successfully, it is necessary to determine how to start, which steps need to be taken, and in what order.
