Barista Game

Barista Game is one of our psychometric games. By using game technology, a large amount of data can be collected in a short time. This makes it possible to measure a psychological construct quickly but carefully. The games are also enjoyable and engaging to play. Candidates do not take a traditional test; instead, they serve customers as a barista.

“Playing the games was fun, and they are well suited for use across different sectors.” - Sandor Lokenberg, owner of Cariero Recruitment Training Sourcing

Barista Game is based on facial expression recognition tasks that are widely used in science to measure emotion perception. Emotion perception is the ability to perceive and recognize emotions. Knowing how others feel is important in communication with others. Emotion perception is therefore also a crucial building block of emotional intelligence. To understand, or even predict or influence, another person’s thinking and behaviour in communication, it is necessary to recognize their feelings and emotions. Not being able to understand how someone else feels can lead to talking past each other or even to conflict.

Barista Game starts with a tutorial, after which the game begins. In the game, the candidate acts as a barista and must serve customers the correct drink as quickly as possible. The candidate must recognize the customer’s emotion and pick up the cup that matches that emotion. Then the drink must be prepared and served. At the start there are only a few customers to help; after that it gets busier and busier.

Application
Barista Game can be applied to all issues where insight into emotion perception is important, in both selection and advisory situations. In communication with others, being able to recognize how the other person feels is essential. This makes emotion perception especially important for roles that focus on collaboration or contact with customers/clients/employees. For example for sales roles, managerial roles, or roles within social services.
